Referendum Overview

Cornell Grade School will have a referendum question on the March 17, 2026 ballot. The referendum asks voters to consider approval of a Debt Service Extension Base (DSEB). The purpose of this page is to explain what is being requested, why the District is asking for it, how it could be used, and what it may mean for the community and taxpayers.

Referendum at a Glance

What is being requested?
Approval of a Debt Service Extension Base (DSEB), which allows the District to issue working cash bonds if needed to help cover operating costs.

Why is this needed?
Educational costs have increased while revenues have been limited by state law and reductions in federal funding.

What would the funds support?
Maintaining academic programs, staffing, and student support services.

Does this automatically raise taxes?
No. Approval allows flexibility to issue bonds if needed; bonds are not automatically issued.

What happens if it does not pass?
The Cornell School Board would be required to begin a consolidation study to explore merging with another district.
